Green Housing Worldwide Is Catching On!

You wouldn’t expect to find ‘green’ housing sprouting up in the hustle and bustle of such places as Mumbai or Kolkata India, but green construction is one of the driving forces behind economic development in such countries.

“With green buildings, real-estate professionals are helping to improve the quality of urban life in Indian cities” says Sachin Sandhir of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

At a time when the real-estate sector is passing through a trough, the concept of green buildings is catching on among developers and buyers. This is because of two factors: growing environment consciousness, and lower cost of operation of these buildings. If you’re going to build new construction, it only makes sense to build green.

Green Investment

Both commercial and residential real estate are feeling the push from green tenants. Nowadays, a multinational company will follow a strict policy of occupying only sustainable buildings anywhere in the world. Not only does it help their bottom line with utility costs, but companies now have to incorporate their green image into their brand image.

In the residential market, landlords now have to carry a green image with them as well in this competitive market. Lower monthly energy bills are a big sell to renters right now. The great thing about energy efficient home improvements is, they don’t have to cost alot to give back a significant savings on monthly utility bills. Surprisingly, a lot of tenants are willing to help with the green transformation as well.

Go Green, Save Your Marriage???

Green buildings offer several other benefits besides lower utility bills.

Clean interior air is a benefit most people never think about. The air quality inside your home or office probably has the biggest impact on our mental and physical health.  According to a recent survey in Australia, people who work in green buildings have 30 per cent less health problems, are 20 per cent more productive, and have fewer divorces than those working in normal buildings.

Who’d have thought that a green home could be the answer to so many social issues???
