Energy Efficient Products at Home
We’ve talked a lot about Air Sealing your home to make it more energy efficient. Now it’s time to put some substance behind the lingo.
How do you make your home more energy efficient?
Here are a few products that can help:
Fireplace Plugs – One of the biggest holes in your home may be your chimney. While a fireplaces is meant to keep the home warm, it also has two major flaws.
- It lets cold air in if not properly sealed.
- Alot of the energy from the heat goes up the chimney, along with the heat you’re producing from your furnace.
- Clothes Dryer Vent Seals – Another common area of the house that doesn’t get much consdieration for energy efficiency is the clohthes dryer vent. Much like the chimney, alot of cold air can come in and alot of your furnace’s air can leak out if this vent is not sealed properly.

How Does the Dryer Vent Seal Work?
The vent will remain closed unless the dryer is in use. When the dryer is in use, the floating shuttle underneath the visible hood rises to allow warm air, lint, and moisture to escape.
Outside air enters your home through the exposed dryer vent, and that means higher heating bills in winter, higher cooling bills in summer. Our Dryer Vent Closure keeps out that outside air: heated dryer air pushes up the floating shuttle, then escapes from the vent’s bottom. When dryer stops, shuttle drops back down, keeping wind, birds, bugs and rodents outside. ABS plastic vent mounts easily over existing 4″ vent pipe. Can be painted. Screws included.
- R-50 Attic Stair Covers – The gap around your attic stairway is like an open window. In the cold winter your heat flows right out and cold air flows in. In the summer, the opposite affect happens.
